Unplayed Art Product Development

This page describes what it takes to go from idea to product.

Prototyping

Prototyping a build is done using Studio, as well as physical bricks.

Studio gives the ability to prototype using a wide range of unlimited bricks, and colours. it helps understand if the build is possible.

Physical bricks help ensure that the build is possible, and it also allows me to visualize unique combination of pieces and their effect.

There is also a phase of optimisation where I make sure the build is using the cheapest pieces where it can, so that the overall cost of the product is kept low.

Selling

When a product is ready to sell, the focus shifts to:

  1. Having an initial physical build created.

  2. Ensuring there are enough pieces for multiple additional copies to be built, ordering more pieces where necessary.

  3. Taking photos of the initial physical build to be used in the portfolio and the store page.

  4. Creating an inventory of 'kits' for the product so that it can be assembled on demand.

The frames are common across many products. This makes it easier to manage the inventory.
